NASPO Donates $50,000 to Red Cross for Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts in Southeast

The National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) announced today a recent donation of $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in the Southeastern United States following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene.

Hurricane Helene, a powerful Category 4 storm, made landfall in Florida on September 26, 2024, unleashing winds of up to 150 mph and causing catastrophic storm surge along the coast. The hurricane then carved a destructive path northward, maintaining its strength as it moved inland. As it traveled through Georgia and into the mountains of North Carolina, Helene triggered widespread flooding, landslides, and power outages, affecting millions of residents across the region.

“The destruction left in Hurricane Helene’s wake is heartbreaking,” said Lindle Hatton, CEO of NASPO. “From the coastal communities of Florida to the mountain towns of North Carolina, the impact has been severe and far-reaching. NASPO stands with our members and all those affected throughout the Southeastern United States.”

The American Red Cross will use these funds to provide emergency shelter, food, water, and other critical supplies to communities devastated by the hurricane across the affected states. The organization is particularly focused on reaching isolated communities in the North Carolina mountains, where road access has been severely limited due to landslides and flooding.

NASPO encourages other organizations and individuals to join in supporting hurricane relief efforts through donations to reputable aid organizations.
