Regional Council Leadership Spotlight

In the second part of a series, we will introduce you to your Regional
Council Chairs and Vice Chairs. This month, get to know the
Southern Regional Leadership.

Rebecca Krystopa (GA), Southern Regional Council Chair

What is the most rewarding part of your job in public procurement?
I read or see new stories often, especially now, regarding how something positive has come of research at a Georgia university, or our Georgia State Patrol was able to rescue a motorist, or any number of amazing things, and I know that in some way the work we do in public procurement helped make these things happen. Something was purchased with the purchasing card program we manage, or on a statewide contract, or a policy we have in place allowed a purchase to occur. That is when I know what what we do in public procurement matters.

What is your advice for working with other agencies in the state?
The majority of my job involves daily interaction with Georgia’s state entities. I have worked in a state entity myself. I understand the pressure, the grind, and the perspective of those in an agency. I always strive to assist the agencies and provide the best possible customer service to them. Our mission is to serve, and we need the agencies as much as they need us in order to serve the citizens of our state.

If you hadn’t ended up in procurement, what would you be doing now?
I would be a baseball beat reporter, preferably for the Atlanta Braves. Originally, I began college as a journalism major. I am a huge baseball fan and even interned at the sports department of CNN in my twenties.

Lisa McKim (OK), Southern Regional Vice Chair

What is the most rewarding part of your job in public procurement?
The more rewarding part of my job in public procurement is being able to partner with interesting people in all levels of government, learning about and understand their missions, what their needs are and assist with finding solutions to meeting their needs.

What is the most interesting part of public procurement for you?
Every day brings a new need, challenge, program, project, and people to interact and connect with on so many different levels. Every day is a new adventure.

Describe the best vacation you’ve ever taken.
The best vacation I’ve ever taken was with my son to Eastern Tennessee. We love to explore areas we have never been to that are off the beaten path. On vacation, we find a centrally located place to stay and then each day we venture out in a different direction to explore. Vacations for us always include taking the scenery by horseback!
